"Halo 3: Countdown to Launch" premieres Monday, September 24 at 9 PM ET/PT throughout the movie "Goldeneye" and is immediately followed by the half-hour special "Halo 3: Launched!" at 12:30 AM ET/PT. Xbox Live will also come to life with exclusive, expanded Game Head videos.
"We're excited to partner with Spike TV to create the official Halo 3 launch special," said Chris Di Cesare, director of creative marketing at Xbox. "We're treating this not just as a prime-time TV show, but also as a multi-platform experience with Xbox Live video content that enhances and builds on the show."
"Halo 3 is the most anticipated game of the year. We couldn't be more thrilled to be working with Microsoft to celebrate the game and the millions of fans around the country with Game Head's first live videogame launch special," said Dario Spina, SVP of Integrated Marketing at MTV Networks Entertainment Group.
The festivities get underway in New York City when Game Head host Geoff Keighley joins the Halo faithful as they count down the minutes to the game's first sale at midnight, set to be broadcast LIVE on Spike TV. Throughout the night reports from New York will be interspersed with fascinating vignettes filmed all around the Halo Nation. These segments profile hard-core Halo fans that do everything from make their own Master Chief armor to a 100-person strong paintball league that recreates famous Halo battles.
Game Head also travels to game developer Bungie Studios in Kirkland, WA for a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the game and a visit with Halo composer Marty O'Donnell in his studio. In addition, Halo fanatics won't want to miss a string of back-to-back exclusive unveilings, such as the first-ever look at the player's command ship in the forthcoming game "Halo Wars," and a behind-the-scenes tour of McFarlane Toys. Finally, the night caps off with a special performance from self-professed Halo fans Linkin Park.
Simultaneous with the TV special, Xbox Live will feature a series of expanded Game Head segments that give players a deeper look at the fan culture and the rapidly-expanding Halo franchise.
